Worth knowing

  • Requesting room check-ins and maid service can involve multiple staff knockings during morning hours.
  • Food quality and restaurant facilities receive mixed reviews, generally regarded as adequate but not exceptional.

About this property

Welcome to Mammoth Mountain Inn

Mammoth Mountain Inn offers a traditional lodge atmosphere with warm, cozy rooms and condo-style accommodations. Situated at an elevation of 9,000 feet and located just steps from the ski gondola, this property suits visitors aiming to spend ample time on the slopes. While the building shows signs of age, the rooms are generally comfortable, with some guests noting the presence of well-equipped kitchenettes and spacious layouts, particularly in loft-style units.

The inn features practical amenities such as a heated outdoor pool, a fitness center, and an on-site grill and bar. Tusks Bar, nearby within walking distance, provides live music and a lively setting for guests to relax after a day outdoors. The property welcomes LGBTQ+ guests and is notably dog-friendly, although additional pet deposits and fees apply.

Guest feedback reflects a mix of impressions: many highlight the friendly and knowledgeable staff, praised for attentive service that enhances the overall experience, especially around ski shop assistance and front desk hospitality. At the same time, some reviews point out that the decor and facilities could benefit from updating, with occasional concerns about cleanliness and maintenance.

Conveniently positioned less than five miles from the town of Mammoth Lakes, the inn provides easy access to activities like skiing at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and visits to nearby landmarks such as Devils Postpile National Monument. Its location is ideal for those who prioritize proximity to ski lifts, though skiing directly in and out of the property may require carrying equipment a short distance. The inn is accessible via Mammoth Yosemite Airport, just 25 minutes by car, making it a practical base for mountain visits.

I absolutely love this place. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They are well trained and have knowledge of the resort and lifts. Tatihana the manager at the front desk and her crew are on point. Would recommend anyone who wants to escape from the rat race. 10/10

Please note that the hotel is actually more likely a two to three star, in terms of quality of rooms and facilities, but to find a hotel this close to the mountain with a hot tub, gym and and a decent restaurant was amazing. I’ve been coming to Mammoth for 20 years and this was my first time staying here. I’ve already booked my next trip. Mammoth Mountain Inn is going to be one of my favorites moving forward.

Fake Ski-in/out - yes it located very close to ski chairs & gondola but when you have to carry & walk w your skis it’s not ski in/out! - yes the hotel is rather old, carpet to restaurant was dirty looking lol. Food was really just ok. Though they were friendly & has a decent bar atmosphere. - we got the studio room with kitchenette (well equipped with toaster, microwave for popcorns, stove & pans, dish washer detergents, except kettle, which I brought along a portable after reading a review). Very happy with room situation. A friend joined us last min & there was a pull out bed from wall. Room is decently spacious. - ski valet service at lobby so very convenient & a great plus! - I suffered from high attitude, reception was kind enough to give me a couple of aspirin which helped a lot. - guest relations Brian Henke has been very helpful when I called prior to arrival asking for pet sitter suggestions as I was scrambling last minute. One thing I wished the hotel could have done better is NOT put us right between exit/stairways — worst our room was between 2! One to garage & other staircases which stresses my poor chihuahua. I put in a remark’s obviously no one care. We didn’t realised that many ppl use the staircase as there was no lift in the East Wings! My poor baby didn’t have much of a good rest during day & evening.

Absolutely outstanding service from Haley at the Mammoth Mountain Inn ski shop. Despite an extremely busy schedule, she went out of her way to fit us in and made sure our skis were waxed and ready before we headed out. That kind of hustle and care is rare. What really stood out was her attitude—positive, energetic, and genuinely enjoying her work. She made the whole experience fun and stress-free, even with the shop buzzing. You can tell she takes pride in what she does and cares about the guest experience. Huge thank you to Haley for going above and beyond. She’s a real asset to the team, and we truly appreciated her help.

Had a great experience at Mammoth Mountain Inn, starting when we arrived much later than expected after 11pm. Caroline, at the front desk, welcomed us with such a cheery disposition that it made us completely forget the frustrating traffic on the way up.. We went from being miserable in a car for 7 hours to feeling like we just met up with an old friend - Thankyou Caroline! The room was spacious, the mattress was comfortable, and the gondola to the top is just steps away. What a great stay from the moment we checked in until we had to leave!

We stayed in a room with loft and it was very spacious. We didn’t expect a modern atmosphere at all since the entire building is scheduled to be torn down soon. However, I understand why the company has delayed the process, as the structure itself is quite sturdy despite its age. We used the spa, and the jet pressure was very strong, although one jet was not working. The kitchen had a large refrigerator and was fully equipped with everything we needed, from dishes to pans. The mattress was very comfortable—perhaps it has been updated. All towels and linens were very clean. Since we didn’t have high expectations, everything turned out to be very good for our trip. The location was perfect, and we enjoyed skiing every day. We brought our dog, and they returned all deposit. Only one thing little annoyed was the staff was checking out our checking our time. There were 3 different staffs knocked the door every hour from 9:00 to 11:00am. Wish they communicated with the front desk not with us!

The nicest staff in Mammoth, period! (sorry Westin, they do it better). Caroline and Andy were amazing! They went above and beyond to try and accommodate every request add did it all with a smile. Hard to beat ski-in/ski-out for anyone whose top priority is hitting the slopes too. Would stay here again.

Definitely some strong pros and cons. The con is that it is pretty old and shows it age. The pros are the location and the service was top notch. Also very dog friendly. Dogs were everywhere. Requires $200 deposit and extra $50 a night. We stayed in a 2BR with loft. The carpet and the wall paper definitely show their age, but the beds are decently comfortable and sheets are clean. Plenty of towels. Maid service was great. Can request morning, afternoon or evening. There is underground covered parking, but it is very limited and can be very tight for larger trucks/SUVs. Otherwise you have to park outdoors. There is a heated pool and 4 hot tubs in the west annex building. 3 indoors and 1 outdoors. Very small gym. Location is fantastic. Literally right across from the gondola and discovery chair. Loved the ski valet. Located in the main lobby. You can drop off your skis/boards and ski boots whenever you come in. They will also keep your regular shoes for you while you ski. There is also a small rental shop in the main lobby also. They don't carry demos but you can drop off any Mammoth rental there. Don't have to walk all the way to the rental shop in Main Lodge. Service was top notch all around.
